Natural Chimneys Park, VA - Red Wing Roots Festival

Outdoor music festivals are so great for sketching! The Red Wing Roots Festival was held at Natural Chimneys Park near Harrisonburg, VA. The towering red formations were an inspirational backdrop to the music. The best part of a festival like this is the opportunity to sketch so many people! For the most part, folks mostly sat still and listened to the music. Few ever noticed me sketching and because it was outdoors, people wore great hats and sunglasses!

I was determined to travel light and take only the bare essentials for this trip. I learned right away, though, that it would have been prudent to pack backups of easily misplaced items such as brushes and pencils!

Well I got some color on the page before losing my one and only brush. Lesson learned!

Relationships - dynamic and worn in.

All the relaxed poses!

It’s fun to watch people engaged in conversation.

The guy in the wide-brimmed hat was the only one who seemed to notice me sketching him because he made a point to hold real still while facing me!

I love the lady with earrings, fanning herself with the program!
