Why sketch in a museum or gallery? Whether you are into urban sketching, travel sketching, or a student, sketching a few objects at a museum will enhance the enjoyment of your visit in many ways.
Sketching in museums and galleries is an old educational tradition and most museums welcome the public to take notes about and sketch their collections.
All you need to sketch in a museum is a pencil and a simple piece of paper, whether it’s in a notebook, a sketchbook, or torn off an old envelope! You don’t even need to know how to draw! Can you believe it!? Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned student of the arts, there is much to learn from sketching in a museum.
I didn’t really have a clear idea of what I wanted to accomplish with my sketchbook on this epic adventure. Somehow just document the trip visually.
Sketching in a town gives you an opportunity to pause for a few minutes and take in the past, as well as the present of a community.
A place like Edmonds Marsh can be really hard to sketch because of the enormous amount of detail!
